I used Cinema 4D and After Effects to animate hand drawn illustrations. I researched early astronomy and found the drawings by the early astronomers of the Renaissance fascinating. I thought it might be fun to animate their drawings.
I scanned the drawings and cut them out in Photoshop. Organizing them in layers.
I found it easier to bring these layers directly into Cinema 4D. I could position the layers along the z-axis and apply Cinema 4D’s lights to get a more interesting shadow and depth effect than if I had just done this all in After Effects.
I actually enjoy animating hand drawn illustrations. I don’t know why I don’t do more of this, especially since I’ve been making myself draw more.
